Passing the Peace of Christ and Welcoming the Light of Christ

(How do we teach a pet to live with us?)

Hymn: “Hush, Hush, Somebody’s Calling My Name” 604 (NCH)

Public Domain

Hush, hush somebody's calling my name, Hush, hush somebody's calling my name, Hush, hush somebody's calling my name . Oh my God, Oh my God, what shall I do, what shall I do?

Sounds like Jesus, somebody's calling my name, Sounds like Jesus, somebody's calling my name, Sounds like Jesus, somebody's calling my name. Oh my God, Oh my God, what shall I do, what shall I do?

I am so glad trouble won’t last always. I am so glad trouble won’t last always. I am so glad trouble won’t last always. Oh my God, Oh my God, what shall I do, what shall I do?

He is our peace, who has broken every wall. He is our peace. He is our peace. He is our peace, who has broken every wall. He is our peace. He is our peace. Cast all your cares on him, for he careth for you. He is our peace. He is our peace.

A Time of Offering

Dedication Hymn: Undivided Heart

CCLI license #11038266

If I'm to be whom You desire all throughout my life a vessel unto honor, Lord to Thee and before Your throne to hear You say

that I have done my part, Lord, I need an undivided heart

That I might know You; that I might serve You; that I might worship You as king to see the morning star, to know how great You are, Lord, I need an undivided heart

Dedication Prayer

Compassionate and Just God, multiply our gifts of time, talent, and treasure. May our practice of love be found pleasing in your sight. Amen

Listening for God

Message with Young Hearts:

How do we teach a pet to live with us?

Scripture Passage

Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40

Do not fret because of the wicked;

do not be envious of wrongdoers,

2 for they will soon fade like the grass,

and wither like the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;

so you will live in the land, and enjoy security.

4 Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the Lord;

trust in him, and he will act.

6 He will make your vindication shine like the light,

and the justice of your cause like the noonday.

7 Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;

do not fret over those who prosper in their way,

over those who carry out evil devices.

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath.

Do not fret—it leads only to evil.

9 For the wicked shall be cut off,

but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.

10 Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more;

though you look diligently for their place, they will not be there.

11 But the meek shall inherit the land,

and delight themselves in abundant prosperity.

39 The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;

he is their refuge in the time of trouble.

40 The Lord helps them and rescues them;

he rescues them from the wicked, and saves them,

because they take refuge in him.

Luke 6:27-38 New Revised Standard Version

27 “But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29 If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 30 Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return.[a] Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Matthew 5:38-48

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; 40 and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; 41 and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. 42 Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers and sisters,[a] what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.)

Our Light moves into the World God Loves

Hymn :“God of Grace and God of Glory” 436 verses 1, 2, and 3 (NCH) public Domain

1 God of grace and God of glory, on your people pour your power; crown your ancient church's story, bring its bud to glorious flower. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.

2 From the evils that surround us and assail the Savior’s ways. From the fears that long have bound us, free our hearts to faith and praise.Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the living of these days, for the living of these days.

3 Cure your children's warring madness; bend our pride to your control; shame our reckless, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul. Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, make our broken spirit’s whole, make our broken spirit’s whole.

Benediction and Sing Amen (760)

(Sing Amen) Amen, we praise your name, O, Lord

(Sing Amen) Amen, we praise your name, O, Lord

(Sing Amen) Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen, we praise your name, O, Lord
