Sunday Worship Aug 16, 2020 and Bulletin

August 14, 2020 by veradaleucc Leave a Comment

Hi Everyone!

Thanks, again, to all who checked in last week. Please, let me know how you are doing especially if you haven’t checked in before.

THERE IS A CHANGE. For those using Go To Meeting. we are changing to Zoom, See link below! The hope is that the sound quality will be better. Check it out!

89.3 FM is our radio frequency so you can also hear church from your radios in the entire church parking lot, the school parking lot, the street parking in front of the church and the school yard across the street. (It will not reach any further). If you want to get out of the house, keep healthy distancing, and listen to church — try our parking lot on Sunday morning!

We continue our fun for those with young hearts! Each week during August we will have a theme and everyone is invited to bring something that represents that theme.
If you are on Facebook, you can put the story related to the theme as a post on the Veradale UCC page or on your own Facebook page and then link it to the live stream.  On ZOOM you can put the story in the Chat and show whatever you have brought to the others on the app. If you send me the something for this Sunday’s theme by Saturday, I may be able to select 1-3 of them to be share live.
Themes:
This Sunday, August 16, Being Kind. Draw a picture, take a picture, write a poem, or tell a story about a time someone surprised you with kindness.
Sunday, August 23, Pieces that make a whole. Show a puzzle that you have put together and what it means to you. This could be a jigsaw puzzle, a crossword puzzle, a wooden 3-D puzzle — any kind of puzzle.
Sunday, August 30,The places we go. Show a path that you have walked that has meaning to you. It could be the labyrinth here at church, a trail in a park, or the sidewalk outside your home. What gives this path meaning?

The bulletin for Sunday worship  is also below. Remember worship is seen and heard both on Facebook and ZOOM (link below). Please, keep flexible about worshiping in person. If Washington State goes back to Phase 1, we will only have the worship team in the building. We are in this for the long haul.

This Sunday, we plan to both worship in person as well as on-line.  For those who come in person, expect:
1. Enter through front door (church wings will both be closed).
2. Only the one bathroom by the front doors will be used.
3. Temperature and names will be taken at the door.
4. Masks are required (we will have masks for forgetful folk).
5. Chairs are set at 6’ apart. Please, do not move chairs.
7. The Bibles, Hymnals, pens, pencils, coloring pages are all REMOVED from the sanctuary
8. There will be absolutely no eating or drinking in the building.

Please, let me know if you are coming in person this Sunday so that I can be certain we have enough chairs set out. Thank you.

Volunteers are still needed to sanitize the bathroom every Sunday. We have volunteers for two Sundays of the month and need two more.

Also, I have recently learned about the projected tsunami of suicides predicted for October through December due to the foreclosures on homes, evictions from apartments, the costs of health care, the loss of jobs, and so much more. We will get through this together! Please, if you or someone you know is talking about harming themselves or feeling hopeless to the point of not wanting to live, call the
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
1-800-273-8255

Available 24 hours a day in  English and  Spanish.
Yes, even harder times are ahead. We have come through hard times before and we will do it again!

With blessings,
Pastor Gen

Passing the Peace of Christ and Welcoming the Light of Christ

Hymn: “O Christ, the Healer, We have Come”

melody is Tallis’ Canon tune 100(NCH)  CCLI #11038266

1 O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends?

2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamor to be freed; yet in our hearts we would confess that wholeness is our deepest need.

3 In conflicts that destroy our health, we diagnose the world’s disease; our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these?

4 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach and proper humankind.

Listening for God

Message with Young Hearts: Being Kind.

Draw a picture, take a picture, write a poem, or tell a story about a time someone surprised you with kindness.

Scripture

Isaiah 56:1, 6-8 NRSV

Thus says the Lord:

Maintain justice, and do what is right,

for soon my salvation will come,

    and my deliverance be revealed.

And the foreigners who join themselves to the Lord,

to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord,

    and to be his servants,

all who keep the sabbath, and do not profane it,

    and hold fast my covenant—

these I will bring to my holy mountain,

    and make them joyful in my house of prayer;

their burnt offerings and their sacrifices

    will be accepted on my altar;

for my house shall be called a house of prayer

    for all peoples.

Thus says the Lord God,

who gathers the outcasts of Israel,

I will gather others to them

    besides those already gathered.[

Matthew 15:21-28 NRSV

Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, ‘Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.’ But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, ‘Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.’ He answered, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ But she came and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, help me.’ He answered, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.’ She said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.’ And her daughter was healed instantly.

Message: “Wow” said Jesus.
