Welcoming the Light of Christ and Passing of Peace
Hymn ““Joy to the World!”
Joy to the World , the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room,And Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven and nature sing, and Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let all their songs employ; While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
Christ rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness, and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love and wonders, wonders, of His love.
Response:“It came upon a Midnight Clear”
vs 4, Public Domai
For lo! the days are hastening on, by prophet seen of old, when with the ever-circling years shall come the time foretold when peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling, and the whole world send back the song which now the angels sing.

Response:” Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence” 345 (NCH)verse 4
At Christ’s feet the six-winged seraphs, cherubim with sleepless eye, veil their faces to the presence, as with ceaseless voice they cry, Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, God most high!
Everlasting One, bless our offerings of time, talent, and treasure. Help us to practice your way of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience in our lives and our giving. We ask following Jesus. Amen.
Listening for God
What is in a year?
Colossians 3:12-17 New Revised Standard Version
12 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Luke 2:41-52 The Message
41-45 Every year Jesus’ parents traveled to Jerusalem for the Feast of Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up as they always did for the Feast. When it was over and they left for home, the child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but his parents didn’t know it. Thinking he was somewhere in the company of pilgrims, they journeyed for a whole day and then began looking for him among relatives and neighbors. When they didn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem looking for him.
46-48 The next day they found him in the Temple seated among the teachers, listening to them and asking questions. The teachers were all quite taken with him, impressed with the sharpness of his answers. But his parents were not impressed; they were upset and hurt.
His mother said, “Young man, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been half out of our minds looking for you.”
49-50 He said, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I had to be here, dealing with the things of my Father?” But they had no idea what he was talking about.
51-52 So he went back to Nazareth with them, and lived obediently with them. His mother held these things dearly, deep within herself. And Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people.
