Dear Friends and Members of Veradale UCC,
Many Thanks to all who continue to check in. Please, let me know how you are doing this week. Let me also know any prayers you want to add. Thanks!
This Sunday is the first in the season of Lent. I hope you can join us on Facebook, Zoom, or in-person. For those on Zoom and in-person, we have sometime after worship that we visit for a little while. This has been such a blessing!
Our Mardi Bras Drive Through party was shared with the Eastside Gladiators (Petra Hoy’s group), Temple Beth Shalom, Congregation Emanu-el, and Faith Leaders and Leaders of Conscience. The list below has expanded since the first count as more donations have come in. All donations for Mardi Bras go to
Volunteers of America Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho
. We collected:
2144 Tampons
2406 Pads
143 pair of socks
BAGS of toothbrushes and tooth paste
TONS of Toilitires
352 Undies
149 Bras
Bus Passes
Leggings
Slippers
Clothes
20 gloves
9 scarves
11 hats
$565
Remember, we will have a small in-person gathering as well as Zoom, Facebook, and with Radio Daniel at 89.3 (in the parking lot). If you want to worship in-person, let me know as we have a limited number of spaces. For those who come in person, expect:
1. Enter through front door (church wings will both be closed).
2. Only the one bathroom by the front doors will be used.
3. Temperature and names will be taken at the door.
4. Masks are required (we will have masks for forgetful folk). No Face shields unless they include a cloth mask which MUST be worn over the nose. The new more contagious strain of covid requires us to be more vigilant. So, masks must be worn over the nose.
5. Chairs are set at 6’ apart. Please, do not move chairs.
7. The Bibles, Hymnals, pens, pencils, coloring pages are all REMOVED from the sanctuary. If you want to print your own bulletin or bring your own Bible, that is fine.
8. There will be absolutely no eating or drinking in the building.
9. There will be no singing in the sanctuary. We will have hymns but only those on Facebook and Zoom can sing.
Thank you for keeping flexible about worshiping in person.
Let me know if you will be in-person this Sunday.

*Hymn: “God Reigns o’er All the Earth” 21 (NCH)

God reigns o’er all the earth! Green hills and valley’s low, the farms and towns in golds and browns God’s grace and beauty show. God reigns o’er all the earth! Stone banks and spreading plains, in rainbow hues – reds, yellows, blues – of stream and country lanes.
God reigns o’er human life! Through youth and aging years, in death, in birth, in grief in mirth, in all our hopes and fears.God reigns o’er human life! Our inspiration still. Through all our schemes, in all our dreams, we see God’s reigning will.
God reigns o’er time and space! In history’s bygone days, Christ’s faithful folk in reverence spoke to bring God earnest praise. God reigns o’er time and space! O’er galaxy and sun, through timeless years the cosmos hears the heavenly music run.
God reigns! Emmanuel! God with us every day, in all our past and to the last, our comfort and our stay. God reigns! Emmanuel! Let praise to Christ be sung! God’s presence here makes all things dear. Let joyful bells be rung!

Listening for God
Genesis 9:8-17 (NRSV)
Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”
Mark 1:9-15 (NRSV)
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.”
And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. He was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”

Hymn: “Guide Me, O My Great Redeemer” 18 (NCH)
Public Domain
Guide me, O my great Redeemer,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but you are mighty;
hold me with your powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me ‘til I want no more,
feed me ‘til I want no more.
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but you are mighty;
hold me with your powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
feed me ‘til I want no more,
feed me ‘til I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain,
where the healing waters flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,
ever be my strength and shield,
ever be my strength and shield.
where the healing waters flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through.
Strong Deliverer, strong Deliverer,
ever be my strength and shield,
ever be my strength and shield.
When I reach the River Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell’s Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever sing to you,
I will ever sing to you.
bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell’s Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan’s side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever sing to you,
I will ever sing to you.
Benediction and “What does the Lord Require?”

2. Justice, kindness, walk humbly with your God.
3. To seek justice, and love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.
